Tidal Bore

When the quickly rising waters of the Bay of Fundy tide meet a river—such as New Brunswick’s Petitcodiac—it overpowers the river, pushing against the river’s flow in a visible wave. This natural phenomenon—a tidal bore—causes the water in this otherwise placid river to roll back upstream in a wave that ranges in height from three cm (one in.) to 75 cm (30 in.) and at speeds up to 13 km/hour. Just as spectacular is the rapid and dramatic change in the river itself. At low tide, the muddy river bottom is often visible, but within an hour of the arrival of the tidal bore, the water level rises and fills the river to its banks.

Hopewell Rocks

One of New Brunswick’s top destinations and perhaps the place where the power of the Bay of Fundy tides is most impressive. At low tide you can walk on the ocean floor, explore coves, and look up in amazement at these distinctive sandstone formations topped with trees. At high tide, the enormous rock formations that once towered over you are now barely peeking out above the surface. You can paddle a sea kayak around the tops of the sea stack wonders. It takes just over six hours for high tide to become low, and another six for low to become high. So, in just one visit you can live complete experience this magnificent site.

The Pays de la Sagouine is a theatrical village and opened in 1992 on a small natural island in the middle of Bouctouche Bay. The Pays de la Sagouine is foremost a meeting place where the imagination of a great Acadian author, Antonine Maillet, gives life to many characters, all more endearing than others. Beaubears Island Shipbuilding National Historic Site: The only known undisturbed archeological site associated with national significance of the 19th-century wooden-shipbuilding industry in New Brunswick. Beaubears Island and nearby Wilsons Point together form Boishébert National Historic Site of Canada. Under the leadership of Charles Deschamps de Boishébert, many Acadians found refuge at Wilsons Point from 1756 to 1760. Beaubears Island was also an integral and functional part of the early settlement that gives testimony to the Acadian experience. Prior to Acadian settlements in the region, the Mi'gmaw people camped on the island.

Phoca Tours

Just being on the water is a treat in it self, but what if you also find yourself surrounded by grey seals and thousands of terns, see a bald eagle diving onto its prey, or eat that shellfish in a way you never did before?  The 30' 12 passenger pontoon boat PHOCUS brings you into a wonderful world, that could not be explored by land.
